Ingredients

  • 300g beef sirloin or flank steak (thinly sliced)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet or wok
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Cutting board and knife
  • 1 Wooden spatula
  • 1 Measuring Spoons and Cups

Method

  1. Prepare the Beef: Place sliced beef in a bowl; add soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef: Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Stir in marinated beef and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes or until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Stir-Fry the Broccoli: In the same pan (add a splash more oil if the pan looks dry), add the broccoli. Add the broccoli, and stir-fry for 4–5 minutes, or until just-tender but still crisp.
  4. Stir Together & Simmer: Return the beef to the pan, sprinkle red pepper flakes, taste and season, and stir. Cook 2 minutes more to combine flavors.
  5. Rest and Serve: Rest the dish for 5 minutes, then serve hot.

Notes

  • Cut the beef into thin slices, against the grain for tenderness.
  • Fresh broccoli gives optimal crunch, but frozen will do in a pinch.
  • Swap the soy sauce for coconut aminos to reduce sodium.
  • Toss in mushrooms, zucchini or bell peppers for a little more diversity.
  • Serve with sesame seeds or green onions for a restaurant-worthy presentation.
